Useful analytics, with less baggage

Keep the information that helps you understand a campaign. Leave raw identifiers out of the event store.

Start with the question.

Most campaign questions are aggregate questions. Where did visitors come from? Which destination received traffic? Which device category is most common? You can answer these without storing raw IP addresses or the full URL a person came from.

Discard what you do not need.

Vink uses the client IP for rate limiting and optional country lookup, then excludes it from persisted click events. Referrers become hostnames. Device and browser names come from the user agent, which is also excluded from the click table. UTM fields are bounded in length.

Campaign labels are data too.

People can accidentally put personal information into UTM parameters. Vink does not infer that a campaign label is harmless. Establish a team naming convention, avoid personal identifiers in links, and configure retention to fit your operational needs. Server and gateway access logs need the same care as the application database.

Be clear about what a click means.

A recorded click is a redirect event, not a verified human visit or conversion. Bots and previews can follow links. This release does not claim unique-person counts or comprehensive bot filtering. Interpreting the data honestly matters more than displaying another impressive number.

Try it on a link of your own.
